Evening Look: Initial Designs and Experimentation

For my evening look, I wanted to create a soft smokey eye inspired by this picture of Scarlett Johansson.

I chose gold tones blended with brown to create a soft smoke. I also designed the look to be worn with a nude or a deep red lip.

I experimented on myself with different textures of red. A satin, matte or gloss. Out of the three I am leaning towards the satin, as I think the gloss is not sophisticated enough for an evening look, and matte may be a little too flat.

In April 2015, Dolce and Gabbana released an all new range of 13 matte red lipsticks. These were created by Tom Pecheaux, one of the most in-demand makeup artists in the world.

The design I have chosen for my assessment is the one below. I feel that it helps to portray the Sicilian elegance Dolce and Gabbana wish to portray through their brand. Lightly bronzed skin for a summer look, and very little on the eyes, bar a flick of black eyeliner, inspired by the actual Dolce and Gabbana SS15 catwalk look. The lips are the main focus of this look. I have chosen the red lip to complement the bronzed skin, and the gloss because it is a catwalk look, and a glossy lip would stand out more than a matte one would. The glossiness also has a much more spring/summer feel too it, as matte is typically associated with winter.

I was very inspired by the Dolce and Gabbana SS15 hair, and chose to create something similar for my assessment. My hair design had a middle parting, and was twisted up into a chignon. I accessorised the hair with a flower headband with red roses on it. Again, this was very inspired by the actual SS15 catwalk.

Experimenting with Red Lips

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been known to express their love of a red lip, and red lipsticks feature prominently throughout their makeup collection. I decided to try a variety of red lips on myself. I tried a few different shades and textures, so below are some of the results.
